The story:

In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.

When Kate Mercier’s parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life–and memories–behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.

Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate’s guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he’s a revenant–an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

In this incandescent debut, newcomer Amy Plum has created a powerful paranormal mythology with immortal revenants. The Paris setting comes enchantingly alive as a relentless struggle between good and evil takes place in its streets. Rich with romance, atmosphere, and thrills, Die for Me will leave readers breathlessly awaiting its sequel

The view of a book addict:

My best friend told me I had to read this book, because she read it and loved it so much! So I listened to her and started reading it, I loved it! It’s such a wonderful story, a story I’ve never read before. Between all the book about vampires and werwolves this story was a breeze of fresh air.
I loved the romance in this book, but I also loved the action in it. For me it was the perfect combination and it was hard for me to put this book down.

The verdict of a book addict:
A great book and I’m so glad I’ve read it! Thanks to my best friend for recommending this book to me!

Interview with Calisto and Kate

Published 26/08/2011 by supernaturalreadingaddict

I was so excited when I recieved an e-mail from Lisa Kessler this week, she was going to do a blogpost today on my blog but she had another idea. I could interview Calisto and Kate if I wanted to, of course she didn’t have to ask me twice if I wanted to do this. So a big thank you for Calisto and Kate for answering my questions! And a big thank you for Lisa for asking me if I wanted to do this. So everybody give a warm welcome to Calisto and Kate!

Hi Everyone –
I wanted to thank Annabel for her great interview questions for Calisto and Kate from my new novel, Night Walker.  I guess I’ll pass the keyboard to them…
Annabel:  First of all how are you both doing?

*Kate smiles and glances at Calisto, then over to Annabel*  We’re both very happy to be here tonight.
Annabel: I have some questions for Calisto first. How do you adjust yourself to every new century?

*Calisto meets Annabel’s eyes*  I fear I do not adjust well. I still cling to familiar music and books from my century.
*Kate smiles and pats his thigh* He still won’t let me set up an email account for him.
The computer is not an adjustment I ever plan to make. *a hint of a smile*
Annabel: How do you cope with everyone you lose in the meantime? I don’t think I could live that long and feel lonely.

*smile fades*  Since Tala’s murder, ordered by a man I once thought of as my friend, I distanced myself from everyone. In a way, perhaps that helped me to endure eternity.
Annabel: Which country do you prefer, Spain or America?

I have not seen my homeland since I came to the New World with Father Junipero Serra in the 1700’s, so I would say America is my home now.
Annabel: How would you describe your feelings for Kate?

*Taking Kate’s hand, he smiles at her, before gazing back at Annabel* How do you describe a feeling that is larger than words?
*Kate chuckles and shakes her head, smiling at Annabel* He tries to answer me with more questions too.
*Calisto’s smile fades, his voice deep with emotion* I love her more now than I ever have. She fascinates me and makes me laugh when I believed I had forgotten how.  Kate is the light to my darkness. The other half of my soul.
*He looks at Kate and adds* I am grateful and lucky to have her love in return.
Annabel: And now some questions for Kate… Like Calisto can you describe your feelings for him?

*Kate is still blushing from Calisto’s heartfelt words* Wow!  I’m not sure how I can follow that.  *Calisto’s smile widens* But I can say that before I met Calisto, I always felt like something was missing, almost like I was a stranger in my own life.
But from the moment I heard his voice, his Spanish accent, it all sparked something inside of me.  Not really a memory, but I felt comfortable with him. Safe. I confided secrets with him that I’d never shared with anyone. *holding Calisto’s hand a little tighter* That trust, knowing I wasn’t alone anymore, gave me an inner strength I never knew I had.
Annabel: Before I’m going to ask this question let me just tell you that you are such a great heroine! How did you find the strength to do all the things you did?! If I were you I wouldn’t know if I could handle everything like you did.

I didn’t know if I could handle it either!  *Kate laughs* I guess in the end you do what you have to do.  Live or die.  I’m glad I chose to live and keep moving forward.
Annabel: How do you handle knowing that your an old soul that has lived and loved this man before?

I have to admit that was creepy at first. My whole life I had this horrible nightmare, and to realize I was really seeing my own murder in a past life. *shudders and shakes her head, tightening her grip on Calisto’s hand again* As my past started to come back to me, I really thought I was losing my mind.
Calisto helped by filling in the blanks for me.  It did explain why I felt such a strong connection to him from the first moment we met, but I was glad that I fell in love with him before I remembered. Otherwise I might always wonder if it was real.
*Calisto nods* Kate is no longer Tala.  The past brought us together, but we have different lives now. I fell in love with the woman she is today.

Annabel: Kate, are you happy with the life you’re living now and the choices you’ve made?

Yes.  *smiles at Calisto* I like knowing whatever the future holds we’ll face it together.
Annabel: And finally a question for you both… What are your plans for the future?

*Lisa takes over the keyboard*   I can’t let them tell you that… LOL  I’m working on the edits for Night Demon (Book #2) so they’re not allowed to give you any spoilers.
We are keeping the conversations going on the Night Series facebook page!  You can visit at http://facebook.com/NightSeries
Thanks so much for the great interview quesitons, Annabel!!!

The view of a book addict:

I loved this book, being a member of the street team for this book I couldn’t wait to read it and I wasn’t dissapointed. The only time I was dissapointed was when I read the last page of the book because I want to read more!

I fell in love with Kate for being such a wonderful character and I fell in love with Calisto for being himself. I just couldn’t put the book down, but I had to because I had to work. The story just captured me from the first line, and it wouldn’t let me rest until I read the last sentence. And even now I can’t get the book out of my head because of the amazing ending that tells me that there is more in store for Kate and  Calisto. I caught myself screaming at my e-reader when the book became exciting and I was on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t help myself and fear for Kate and pray she wouldn’t die.

The verdict of a book addict:

This story just keeps you on the edge of your seat and praying you find someone like Calisto. An amazing book by an amazing author! The only thing I can do now is wait for the next book to come out! If you ask me this book is one of the best books that came out this year!

Teaser Tuesday #27

Published 23/08/2011 by supernaturalreadingaddict

It’s Tuesday again so time for another Teaser Tuesday hosted by Should Be Reading! Here is how it works:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
And here is my Teaser for this week:

“Okay,” I conceded. “I get it that you have a compulsion to die. But that doesn’t explain why, in between all the dying, you do things like dive in the Seine after a suicide attempt. You obviously weren’t going to die from that.

Booktitle: Timeless
Author: Gail Carriger
Release date ( if known) : march 2012
Catagory: Vampires, steampunk
Goodreads summary

Alexia Tarabotti, Lady Maccon, has settled into domestic bliss. Of course, being Alexia, such bliss involves integrating werewolves into London High society, living in a vampire’s second best closet, and coping with a precocious toddler who is prone to turning supernatural willy-nilly. Even Ivy Tunstell’s acting troupe’s latest play, disastrous to say the least, cannot put a damper on Alexia’s enjoyment of her new London lifestyle.

Until, that is, she receives a summons from Alexandria that cannot be ignored. With husband, child, and Tunstells in tow, Alexia boards a steamer to cross the Mediterranean. But Egypt may hold more mysteries than even the indomitable Lady Maccon can handle. What does the vampire Queen of the Alexandria Hive really want from her? Why is the God-Breaker Plague suddenly expanding? And how has Ivy Tunstell suddenly become the most popular actress in all the British Empire?

Why do I want to read this book?

I just love this series, so I can’t wait to read what’s going to happen next to Alexia Tarabotti!

Interview with James Sanderson

Published 19/08/2011 by supernaturalreadingaddict

As part of his blogtour for the Angelic mysteries James Sanderson stopped by my blog today. Here is the interview he gave to the Tony Angelo Radio show. So give him a warm welcome everyone!

AN INTERVIEW WITH JAMES D. SANDERSON
I had the great pleasure being on the Tony Angelo radio show last Saturday, and I wanted to share some of the things we talked about (and have added some other things we didn’t talk about). If you have any comments or questions of your own, please add them in the comments below.
Why do you write?

A person must be crazy to want to write, and I mean that literally. When I was a kid my Dad was such an overbearing and dynamic force in my life – and I don’t mean to say he was abusive, really – that I couldn’t seem to find a voice for myself. When he argued with my mother I remember scrunching down into the corner of my bedroom and making myself very tiny. Then, when I learned to write, my writing was very tiny as well. People still comment on it today. My script is almost microscopic and all pinched together. It was as if I was trying to express myself but I didn’t really want anyone to be able to see what I was trying to say. So, I guess to keep expressing myself, I had to write.
How do you come up with story ideas and characters?

It takes me a long time to come up with story ideas – and I mean years – and they almost always come from character. Characters develop from people I know, or from my own experience, but I don’t believe any of my characters are based on real people. They are more like composite people. Then, when I know my character, I begin to wonder how they would act or react in this situation or that. The story usually emerges from that.
When and how do you write?

I have the great luxury now of being a full-time writer, but if I’m not careful my time can go away just as fast as anyone else’s. I usually blog ‘The Angelic Mysteries’ – my novel coming out in August – on Monday. Then I work on the next chapter of my latest novel on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then on Thursday I blog ‘Literary Greatness’, which is my blog about great authors, literature, books, and writing. I promote my work online anytime I get a minute. For the modern author, marketing and promotion must be part of the writing process.
What authors inspire you?

I have a library full of authors I refer back to often. Tolstoy. Dostoevsky. Hemingway. Faulkner. Steinbeck. Melville. The complete Shakespeare. Henry James. Of course any I don’t have right on the shelf I can usually find online now. That is a great benefit of reading classic literature – you can usually get it free or very cheap on the library giveaway shelf or the used bookstore or online.
What are you working on now?

‘The Angelic Mysteries’ is a novel about a man who meets a woman who believes herself to be an angel. They are being pursued around Europe by a psychopath she believes in an anti-angel – an angel from hell. It is a thriller and a love story, but also a novel of ideas: about the thin line between sanity and insanity. It’s due out August 18th.
How long does it take you to write a novel?

Oh goodness, there is no time limit. ‘The Angelic Mysteries’ came out in a limited edition literary paperback in 1994. I have been working on it off and on ever since. The edition due out in August is my final draft however.
What is your next project?

I have been working on a series of short stories about nonviolent direct action as it has been used around the world, and the collection, as yet untitled, is due out in the spring (March 2012). Meanwhile some of them are being published in small press magazines.
How long have you been writing?

Well, as I said about being a kid hiding out in my bedroom from the fights my parents had, I began to write stories almost as soon as I could write. I remember my twelfth year in particular. I always read classic literature too, so I was considered somewhat weird by my young friends.
How does your background influence your work?

I know I have always wanted to be a writer, and the fact that I read classic literature from an early age has had the most influence on my work. Whenever I read I am making mental notes about how this or that style or technique might be useful to my work in the future. I believe that novels should express great ideas because the written word is just too important to waste on only entertainment.
How do you research?

Plain old library time. Of course it is a lot easier to get books now through inter library loans and so on, and I use the internet extensively. A writer simply must use the internet to help with research. There is no reason for a writer to miss some important detail.
Give some facts and juicy tidbits about your work.

(Laughs). I don’t know how juicy it is, but when I was writing ‘American Masters’ I came to the chapter about our American State Papers as Literature. It occurred to me that Benjamin Franklin, because he had access to his own printing press, was able to go directly to his readers with his story. Who knows what would be known of him today if he had had to go through some convoluted publishing process to get his work out. In France especially he was able to influence people directly with his writing. I think we authors need to start looking for ways to write directly to our readers. Of course the internet is making great strides at helping us do that.
What are you reading now?

I am reading ‘Anna Karenina’ for the umpteenth time. It is really my favorite novel. On my shelf are also ‘Middlemarch’ and ‘Vanity Fair’, which are also long reads. So, I’ve got my reading time mapped out for me for quite a while.
Do you have any concluding remarks?

Only that we writers need to hear from our readers. If you are reading a blog or are meeting an author on Facebook or wherever, don’t be afraid to speak out and say what you think about our work or about reading and writing in general. (Be kind, but be real). We are just breaking into the idea of being able to speak directly with our readers, and we need to know what you are thinking. It will help us create our future works and it will keep us honest about why we’re writing, and who we’re writing for. I would love your feedback at either of my blog sites: Literary Greatness – http://www.jamesdsanderson.blogspot.com or http://www.theangelicmysteries.blogspot.com. You may also look for me on Facebook (James D. Sanderson).
