Teaser Tuesday #22

Published 28/06/2011 by supernaturalreadingaddict
It’s Tuesday again so time for another Teaser Tuesday hosted by Should Be Reading! Here is how it works:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
And here is my Teaser for this week:

A snowflake kissed Luce’s nose.
Then another, and another, and more, until a storm of flurries filled the air and the whole world turned white and cold. She exhaled a long cloud of breath into the frost.

Review: Hemingway man by Jim Maher

Published 27/06/2011 by supernaturalreadingaddict

Title:
Hemingway man
Author:
Jim Maher
Pages:
137( on my e-reader )
Catagory:
young adult

The story:

Sixteen-year-old Will has just lost his father. With no one else to guide him towards manhood, he follows the teachings of Ernest Hemingway:

1. Plant a tree.
2. Write a book.
3. Fight a bull
4. Have a son.

Good luck with that.

***

Hemingway Man is a fast-paced 50,000 word coming-of-age novella with plenty of laughs and a gripping larger-than-life narrative. Will is an instantly likeable narrator as he embarks upon his “man quest”

The view of a book addict:
It was a lovely story about a boy trying to grow up without his father. He decides to follow the rules Hemmingway set to be a real man. Because of his young age he takes this litteraly.
I thought it was a really sweet story about a boy trying to pick up his life after his father died. I loved the way he saw life, it makes you want to reach out to your inner child again, although it’s a sad story.

The verdict of a book addict:

A very sweet book! I’m glad I’ve got the chance to read it.

It’s friday again so time to partictpate in some blog hopping fun! First of all I’m going to start with the Follow friday hosted by Parajunkee’s View.
The question this week is:

Q. In light of the Summer Solstice. Also known as Midsummer…let’s talk about fairies. What is your favorite fairy tale or story that revolves around the fae?

My favourtie story revolving around fae would have to be the Wicked Lovely series, because that’s the first time I read about them.

And of course we can’t forget the Blog Hop, the Blog Hop is hosted by Crazy for Books.

I’ll post it as soon as it’s up

Review: Daphne and the silver ash by Joss Llewelyn

Published 23/06/2011 by supernaturalreadingaddict

Title:
Daphne and the silver Ash
Author:
Joss Llewelyn
Pages:
76 ( on my e-reader )
Catagory:
fantasy, young adult

The story:

For fans of The Last Unicorn, Labyrinth, Legend, and other fine stories that begin with “L”:

In the weary old city of Trevell, young Daphne happily divides her time between caring for her family and crafting the finest shoes in town. But when she is summoned to sing for a panicking phoenix afraid of its fiery rebirth, Daphne is swept up in a thousand-year-old struggle for survival between immortal spirits.

Endowed with the phoenix’s powers of air and fire, as well as the creature’s beautiful golden skin and ruby feathers, Daphne has only a few hours to save a dying tree, restore a crumbling city, and stop an invading army before the phoenix’s fire consumes her mortal heart.

The view of a book addict:

This was a lovely book, the problem for me with most fantasy books is that there are so many characters you have to keep up with. This book follows just one story and that worked really well for me.
I loved the writing style, it moved along in a fast pace but you never had the feeling you were missing something. I loved the main character and I admire her courage. I couldn’t wait to read the end of the story to know how it was going to end.

The verdict of a book addict:
A lovely book, if you like a good fantasy story this is your book!

Review: The Dark and Hollow Places by Carrie Ryan

Published 22/06/2011 by supernaturalreadingaddict

Title:
The Dark and Hollow Places
Author:
  Carrie Ryan
Pages:
378
Catagory:
Zombies, young adult

The story:

There are many things that Annah would like to forget: the look on her sister’s face when she and Elias left her behind in the Forest of Hands and Teeth, her first glimpse of the horde as they found their way to the Dark City, the sear of the barbed wire that would scar her for life. But most of all, Annah would like to forget the morning Elias left her for the Recruiters.

Annah’s world stopped that day and she’s been waiting for him to come home ever since. Without him, her life doesn’t feel much different from that of the dead that roam the wasted city around her. Then she meets Catcher and everything feels alive again.

Except, Catcher has his own secrets—dark, terrifying truths that link him to a past Annah’s longed to forget, and to a future too deadly to consider. And now it’s up to Annah—can she continue to live in a world drenched in the blood of the living? Or is death the only escape from the Return’s destruction

The view of a book addict:

I loved this book! I was a huge fan of the first two books and I couldn’t wait to read the third book, I’m glad I wasn’t dissapointed. The story captured me from the first page to the last, I even kept myself awake last night to finish this book.

This book shows how stong the sense of survival is in people, even if they know that the chances that they’ll survive are limited they still try and that’s what makes this such a good story. The emotions and the things the people do for each other, give this story a heart in between all the dead.

The verdict of a book addict:

A great book! A great ending for a trilogy although I’m still curious about why the return hit. Maybe someday we’ll know.

Where they’re not too deep I wade out and use the shovel, digging it into their necks, pushing down and grunting with the effort of slicing through skin and severe bone. The heads roll a little and it’s hard to avoid their eyes.
I wonder if I’m somehow giving them peace
