A new year and what am I going to do?

Published 31/12/2010 by supernaturalreadingaddict

The answer to that question is easy: Read of course. I’ve got three reading challenges and I intend to finish them all so I’ve got a lot of reading to do. But here is my to do list for this year:

– Finish the series I’m reading because now although I have all the books I haven’t read them yet
– Post active on my blog of course
– I’ve joined the Bloggiesta so I’m going to work on my blog for a whole weekend to make it better.

Well that’s it for the moment but I’m sure I’ll think of other things to put on my list! I hope you all have a wonderful New year and read a lot of books!!!

Review: Prom nights from hell by five different authors

Published 31/12/2010 by supernaturalreadingaddict

Goodreads summary:

In this exciting collection, bestselling authors Meg Cabot (How to Be Popular), Kim Harrison (A Fistful of Charms), Michele Jaffe (Bad Kitty), Stephenie Meyer (Twilight), and Lauren Myracle (ttyl) take bad prom nights to a whole new level—a paranormally bad level. Wardrobe malfunctions and two left feet don’t hold a candle to discovering your date is the Grim Reaper—and he isn’t here to tell you how hot you look.
From angels fighting demons to a creepy take on getting what you wish for, these five stories will entertain better than any DJ in a bad tux. No corsage or limo rental necessary. Just good, scary fun.

Verdict

I don’t have my own review of this book because it’s not just one story so I’ll just write a verdict.
Because they are all different authors you really got five different writing styles in one book. Some stories were really great and others just couldn’t get to me and were really hard to finish.

I think it’s really great to read these books and find out which authors you like to read more about and wich author probably not. It’s entertaining but not a must read if you ask me.

Review: Vampire academy: Last Sacrifice by Richelle mead

Published 30/12/2010 by supernaturalreadingaddict

Goodreads Summary:

Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules.

She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir’s Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir Princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardian to come.

Now the law has finally caught up with Rose- for a crime she didn’t even commit. She’s in prison for the highest offense imaginable: the assassination of a monarch. She’ll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.

But the clock on Rose’s life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back… and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your life is about saving others, who will save you?

Review: Contains spoilers

So the story picks up where the last book ended, Rose is in prison because they think she killed the queen. Of course her friends won’t believe that she did it and they want to prove she’s is innocent. But time is ticking and they decide the only way to prove Rose is innocent is to get more time to find out who did. And to get more time they decide to get Rose out of jail and of course their plan works. Rose is out of jail and on the run with Dimitri and Sydney.

But at home things aren’t easy either not only is everyone looking for Rose, they also need to elect a new king or queen. Back to Rose she has another task at hand, she wants to find the unknown brother or sisther of Lissa just as the queen asked her to do in a letter. And she gets unexpected and unwanted help from Victor.

Victor has another strange proposal to delay things at court he comes up with a strange plan to let Lissa run for queen. Because she doesn’t have any living relatives she could never make it as queen but it will provide a welcome distraction. Rose tells Adrian about this plan in a spirit dream, and he makes sure Lissa gets to take part in the ritual of becoming queen. To become a king or queen you have to past a couple of tests and you get to experience all her tests through the bond Rose and Lissa share.

The biggest link Rose has is to find a former teacher turned strigoi named Sonya, this women probably knows who this secret brother or sister is. Of course Victor and is spirit using brother decide they should join Rose and show up at Sonya’s house. They do help them because Robert is a spirit user, he gets Sonya back, she is no longer strigoi. And she does know who this brother or sister is but swore never to tell anyone.

After a lot talking Sonya helps them find the brother or sister and Rose is very suprised when she meets him/her. ( I’m not going to spoil everything. ) But that’s not the ending of course because the guardians are called and Rose and Dimitri have to run away again. In the meantime Lissa has found out some clues about the real murderer of the queen. With the evidence Lissa provides through their bond and the things Rose finds out for herself she now has a clue as to who did it. But the ending is suprising, because they never suspected the real murderer. I won’t tell anything about the ending you just have to read it for yourselve.

Verdict

I just let out a big sigh when I finished the book, what a beautiful ending to an amazing series. After reading Twilight I wanted to read more vampire books and so I found the Vampire Academy series, I inmediatly fell in love with the chracters and couldn’t wait to read the next book and the next. But this book was diffrent I really wanted to read it but on the other hand I really didn’t. I didn’t want this story to end I just wanted to keep reading about them and that’s why it took me longer to finish this book than it would normaly. But enough about me now let’s go on about the book

If you ask me there couldn’t have been a better ending to this series, it ended so beautiful! I was affraid that I wouldn’t like this book because it would be about Rose a lot and you wouldn’t know what happened in the lives of the other characters. But the bond Lissa and Rose shared made sure we did, I loved all the parts about the tests Lissa had to go through to become a queen. And she is going to make the best queen ever I just know it!

And of course Dimitri and Rose getting back together was inescapable they just belong together! But I did feel sad for Adrian because he really loved Rose and I just know he would have done anything to make her happy. So I understood why he was so mad at her in the end not only for the betrayal but for breaking his hart.

I feel priveleged that I was a part of their lives through reading about them and I will really miss all of them!

Zombies

Published 29/12/2010 by supernaturalreadingaddict

So on wednesday I tell you all a little bit more about the books I love to read and what they are about. So I’ve been reading the book The forest of hands and teeth and have fallen in love with the zombies.
I’ve always been a sucker for zombie movies, I just like the slowly walking dead guys and girls of course.

But I’ve never read a zombie book before, until I found this book. After reading it I decided it was time I found more books about my undead friends, and so I did! I found another series about them and waiting for the books to arrive at the moment. I’m new to all this zombie books so if you’re reading this and have a suggestion for a book I should read tell me!

But what is it I love about zombies? They actually scare the life out of me, I don’t know if there ever were a zombie invasion I hope I won’t get bitten or eaten alive. They scare me because they are never alone, they’re always with a large group and that’s probably their strength because they aren’t that fast. But when you face a big group of zombies you just know you won’t survive. So for the people who haven’t read any zombie books just go for it!! Here are a couple of books I’ve found on the internet, and want to read:

And remember to protecht your brains when reading books about zombies because they will invade your dreams!!

books I really want: Afterlife by Claudia Gray

Published 27/12/2010 by supernaturalreadingaddict

From book one I’ve been in love with the evernight series by Cladia gray. I’ve always been a sucker for a good vampire story and after reading the summary of this book I just wanted to read it and so I did.
But the problem with most series is that they leave you wanting more by the end of the book. And that’s what happened after reading the first book. But I patiently waited for the next book to come out.

And the next book was even better than the first, so the waiting began again of course for the thrid book and after the third book I really hated myself for finishing it so soon! It meant I had to wait longer to know what would happen next in the story. The waiting ends in march but that;s still a long time to go before I know what will happen with Bianca and lucas, I cried for them at the end of Hourglass and I’m dying to know if it will work out for them in Afterlife!

Author Friday: Maggie Stiefvater

Published 24/12/2010 by supernaturalreadingaddict

So I hade the pleasure to meet this wonderful author of the wolves of mercy falls series. I got the first book in the series last yar for christmas and I really loved the story. The fact that the wolves didn’t turn because of the moon but because of the temperature.

So I was really happy when I found out there would be more books in the series and I couldn’t wait for the next book to come out. So this year the second book came out and it even got translated in dutch! Through her facebookpage I found out that Maggie was going to visit the Netherlands but I couldn’t find a location or a venue. After talking about it with my best friend we decided to send an e-mail to the publicist, they adviced us to contact the dutch publicist so we did. And then the waiting began, and to our suprise I found a response in my inbox. They told us Maggie wouldn’t do a signing but because we went to all this trouble to find out we were invited to the official releaseparty of the dutch translation!

Well of course me and my friend went there and we were so nervous. At first we didn’t know if we could just walk in there but we were lucky someone started a speech about the book. So we decided to just walk in and stand on the back of the room for a little while. And then someone approached us and asked us who we were. So we told him that who we were and that we e-mailed them about Maggie and we got invited to the launch party. After talking to him and the women that translated the book for a while the big moment was there we got to meet Maggie.

My english isn’t that bad but with Maggie in front of me I couldn’t say anything I was so nervous! Luckily Maggie talks a lot so we talked about her books and about our personal lives. We even got a free book, and Maggie signed it for us! After we talked for a while we took a picture with her and then it was time to leave for home again. I held the book tight all the way home!

After meeting her I loved her even more! So that’s why she is the first author I write about, she is my all time favourite author!

Review: Twice bitten by Chloe Neill

Published 23/12/2010 by supernaturalreadingaddict

Goodreads summary:

Merit, Chicago’s newest vampire, is learning how to play well with others. Other supernaturals, that is. Shapeshifters from across the country are convening in the Windy City, and as a gesture of peace, Master Vampire Ethan Sullivan has offered their leader a very special bodyguard: Merit. Merit is supposed to protect the Alpha, Gabriel Keene—and to spy for the vamps while she’s at it. Oh, and luckily Ethan’s offering some steamy, one-on-one combat training sessions to help her prepare for the mission.

Merit must accept the assignment, even though she knows that she’ll probably regret it. And she’s not wrong. Someone is gunning for Gabriel Keene, and Merit soon finds herself in the line of fire. She’ll need all the help she can get to track down the would-be assassin, but everywhere she turns, there are rising tensions between supernaturals—not least between her and a certain green-eyed, centuries old master vampire.

Review: Spoiler alert

The story picks up where the last book stopped, Merit goes to the appointment that was mentioned in the note she got. Here she meets with the leader of the rogue vampires and he has a proposition for her. He wants her to join the Red Guard, wich means that if there is a war she will be asked to stop being loyal to her liege ( Ethan Sullivan ) and join the Guard to keep all the vampires save. But this also means she ahs to spy on her Liege and that is something Merit isn’t willing to do yet. After reading this chapter I really thought it would be more about the Red Guard but it acutally goes in a whole other direction.

The end of the last book also tells us that the werewolves are visiting the city to decide if they would stay where they are or if they would all go back to Aurora. The packleader of the werwolves asks Merit to be his bodyguard, but of course she doesn’t have to do this alone. Ethan sullivan will be at her side and he will be training her. Of course the tension between them is still there and to be honest I really thought to myself please do it already so that tension will be gone.

Ethan decides to break Merit’s heart and at the same time his old student and flame comes to the house. The meeting of the packs isn’t going according to plan of course and someone is trying to kill the Alpha, so Merit has to face Ethan en work with him even after he breaks her heart. I’m not going to tell the end of this book because you really should read it for yourselve.

Verdict

As I said before I really wanted Ethan en Merit to just get it on, so the tencion between them would dissapear. I loved the tension in the first two books but in the third book it kind of annoyed me.
But I really liked the whole werewolf story, it brought a lot of action to the book and I love some action.
The alpha did suprise me in het end! But what I really missed was the Red Guard, you’re told about it in the first chapter and it appears again later in the book but it’s not in the main story line. And because they build the tension for this in the first book I really expected it to be more prominent in this book.
But the book didn’t dissapoint me I really loved it just as the first two books, Merit is her old self and just says what’s on  her mind. I really liked the new characters and would love to read more about them in the next book!
